Prosperity Gospel

I recently just finished preaching through the book of Hebrews. I preached a sermon entitled “Death To The Prosperity Gospel” using Hebrews 10:32-39. My understanding of this passage is that we are to find our treasure in Christ and not in the things of this earth. If we end up loosing all our earthly possessions, health, and even dying for the sake of the Gospel we are indeed blessed. The Prosperity Gospel says that God wants you to be happy and is willing to give you the things of this world. That is not the Gospel!

Enjoy this video comparing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the prosperity gospel.

Giving Thanks

First of all I am writing this from a deer stand in East Texas on my iPhone. There will no doubt be spelling and punctuation errors…please forgive me.

As christians we often reflect and state what we are most thankfull for is Christ atoneing blood covering our sins. Understand, I am also thankful for the person and work of Jesus Christ. Without Christ as savior and Lord I/we would be/are destined for eternity in Hell.

What’s got me thinking is that when Christians say we are thankfull for Christ death, burial, and resurrection are we not in essence like an olympic marathon runner thanking his parents for teaching him to walk? Should our thankfullness not be more that Christ has allowed us to worship Him? Thankfull that He has allowed us to serve Him? Is salvation not simply the miricle that begins a life of thanksgiving and adoration to The King?

Just things I think of sitting in a deer stand thanking God for allowing me the operrunity to enjoy His creation!
Happy Thanksgiving Yall!

I am writing this from my iphone. Wanted to let friends and family know we are safe. Hurricane Ike is about half way through, friends who stayed in Danbury say the wind has been rough. One family has lost their patio roof. Not sure of any other damages yet. I will try and make it back to danbury In the morning and hope to provide updates and pictures then.
