Southern Baptist Loosing Ground?

Ed Stetzer has released some alarming statistics on his blog today. Unfortunately, many have seen this coming. I am not nearly as concerned about the loss in membership; as Stetzer says “[it's] an inflated statistic anyway“, I am however concerned that for the 7th year in a row baptisms are declining. There can be only two reasons for a decline in baptisms:

1. God is no longer saving sinners to himself

2. God’s people are not sharing the gospel.

The only answer I believe, is that God’s people are refusing to share their faith. Friends, we have a much bigger problem in SBC life than declining membership, we have a problem of disobedience. The Great Commission is for every believer everywhere.  If we love God  with all our heart we will want to see His kingdom advance. If we love our neighbor as ourselves we will weep over their souls and do all that we can to make sure they know that without a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, they are doomed for hell. May it never be!

Apparently senator Obama believes that I am clinging to my guns and religion because I don’t have a job?

Fox news has an article about some recent comments by the good senator here. For more see here.

And it’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.” [bold emphasis mine]

So according to Mr. Obama, I “cling” to my guns; not because the 2nd amendment guarantees me the right to do so, because I enjoying hunting, or because I might feel the need to protect myself or my family from criminals but because I don’t have a job? Or I am bitter about someone I know loosing their job?

Likewise, I believe in God not because it is what I am commanded to do (here, here, and here), but because of my bitterness? This from a man who attends one of if not the most racist church in America? This from a man who claims to have faith? Faith in what? Or Faith in whom?

Given the opportunity to recant or explain what he “really” meant, Obama instead said this:

“And of course they’re bitter. Of course they’re frustrated,” Obama told a crowd of supporters. “You would be too — in fact many of you are, because the same thing has happened here in Indiana. … Nobody is thinking about you.”

I guess us poor, backwoods, ignorant rednecks just need a little more enlightenment from Mr. Obama. The Bible must not be enough! Maybe when He is president he can spend billions on education for us poor-folk from the country. Mr. Obama, I believe in Change!

A few interesting quotes:

“Unfortunately, McDonald’s is attempting to confuse the fact that they are supporting the homosexual agenda in an e-mail they are sending to those who contact them about the matter,” Don Wildmon, founder and chairman of AFA, wrote in an Action Alert to supporters April 7.

Corporate America Trying to spin something for their benefit…come on…surely not! :)

The issue:

AFA said in response, “We are not telling McDonald’s who they can hire to work for the company, nor are we demanding that they stop serving Big Macs to homosexual customers.

This issue is about the world’s largest fast food chain allying itself and partnering with an organization that lobbies Congress to enact laws that we feel can be used to repress religious freedom or undermine the sanctity of marriage,” AFA said.

“In other words, McDonald’s paid money to be a member of the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce.”

I wonder why mainstream media hasn’t picked this up yet? What a great public interest story!
